Job Position: Meat Packer Applicable Titles: Meat Wrapper Job Levels: I, II, III FLSA Status: Non-Exempt EEO: Operatives Job Summary: Meat Packers are responsible for receiving, storing, wrapping, weighing, pricing, merchandising, and rotation of meat department products. They may also order and stock prepackaged deli items and frozen food products that fall under the meat department. They assist customers without meat products and services. Meat Packers work with equipment like wrapping machines. Supervisory Responsibilities: Levels I through II: None Level III: May review, mentor, or oversee the work of other Meat Packers Duties/Responsibilities: Uses machines such as grinders or slicers to cut meat into smaller pieces Packs meat cuts in boxes or plastic bags for sale at grocery stores or supermarkets Inspects products for damage or defects before wrapping them in plastic wrap or butcher paper Wraps meats in plastic or butcher paper in order to keep them fresh and prevent spoilage Cleans work areas and equipment after each use Slits plastic bags along seams with a knife or blade in order to maker them easier to open Wraps meat in plastic or paper for storage or shipping to other locations Slices meat into thin strips using a band saw or other cutting device Required Skills/Abilities: Reliability Ability to learn and follow strict, process-driven tasks Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred Physical Requirements: Able to stand for long periods of time, positioning on stools or ladders Able to lift heavy packages of meat up to 90 lbs at a time Must be able to stomach strong smells and graphic imagery Must be able to work in an environment that is usually cold and wet Other: Job descriptions prepared by the Company serve as an outline only.
