Summary Wolverine Pathways seeks to confront the barriers that limit the college and career aspirations of highly motivated students from under-resourced communities. We believe that every student deserves the opportunity to pursue a wide range of professional and academic pathways. Toward this end, we provide free college preparatory enrichment and guidance for 7th through 12th grade students in Detroit, Southfield, Ypsilanti and Grand Rapids. Position Details Compensation: $18/hour This is a part-time temporary position Hours per week: 29+ During the summer program, Path Leaders will facilitate daily in-person programming for rising 8th and rising 9th grade scholars. Path Leaders will support youth development and foster opportunities for scholars to build relationships with each other and WP staff and also cultivate their identities as Wolverine Pathways scholars. Our summer session will also enable scholars to navigate academic opportunities and peer relations, develop their voice and independence, and become energized about college and the University of Michigan.During the Senior Overnighter, Path Leaders will assist with in-person programming for rising 12th grade scholars during the three day two night on campus experience. Path leaders will assist with set up, scholar engagement, residence hall monitoring, the resource fair, evening activities and field day activities.Path Leaders will be expected to provide exemplary service throughout this employment period. Applicants must commit to all training and programming dates upon hire. Responsibilities* Foster a community where youth discover, develop and showcase their interests and identities while building community with one another Cultivate community norms and practices that support scholars in building relationships with others who are different from them Facilitate activities with competence and enthusiasm Provide group facilitation consistent with supporting college-going and career exploration Supervise and manage scholar engagement in large and small groups Maintain all administrative records in accordance with supervisory responsibilities Assist with supervisory, administrative and logistical tasks Required Qualifications* Experience with community building, group facilitation, tutoring, coaching, advising, mentoring, or otherwise guiding youth in their development or knowledge consistent with such work Knowledge of or practice in inter-group relations or multiculturalism Desire to increase the academic achievement of diverse students Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently Experience working with diverse populations Experience keeping detailed, accurate and organized records Knowledge of or experience with community engagement and/or college access programs or pathways Specific performance-based competencies and/or preferred dispositions to include: tact and courtesy; punctuality and timeliness; professionalism; strong email etiquette; ability to maintain confidentiality, set priorities, attend to detail and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment. Additional Information Senior Overnighter Dates, Days and Times: Thursday, June 20 - Saturday, June 22 Senior Overnighter Training Senior Overnighter Student Orientation tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, 2024; 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (Strongly recommended) Staff Training tentatively scheduled for Thursday, June 13, 2024; 3:00pm-4:30pm (REQUIRED) Summer SessionPath Leaders must attend mandatory professional development. Path leaders must also attend either all dates during weeks 1-2, OR all dates during all four weeks. Lunch will be provided on each day. Dates, Days and Times: Weeks 1-2: Monday - Friday July 8-July 12 AND July 15-July 19, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Weeks 3-4: Monday-Thursday July 22-July 26 AND July 29-August 2, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. In-Person Professional Development for Summer Session Tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, June 11, 2024 10:00 am-3:30 pmSummer Session Transportation Free bus transportation to and from campus can be provided each day of the summer session for path leaders who will be residing in Detroit, Southfield, or Ypsilanti this summer.
