To quote a popular saying at TNC, "you'll join for the mission, and you'll stay for the people."WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHERThe Apalachicola Bluffs and Ravines (ABRP) Land Conservation Intern performs and participates in preserve operations, maintenance, and management. The Intern maintains preserve areas frequented by the visiting public and performs land management activities. The Intern removes non-native invasive species and conducts species monitoring. The Intern assists in prescribed burns and maintains related fleet, tools, and equipment. The Intern maintains preserve records using a computer and mobile devices. The Intern will participate in public outreach and education opportunities. Interns will develop a project to be completed by the end of the internship program period, reviewed by supervisors, and presented to Florida staff during a Chapter-wide call. The Intern may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations for long periods of time in isolated settings, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. This is an exciting internship opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors and learning about land conservation work. This full-time, temporary intern position has a tentative start date of October 1, 2024, and will end June 1, 2025. This position is an internship for an individual whose work is directly related to a current or recently completed accredited educational program. It excludes adults not affiliated with an accredited education program. Co-ed housing and basic utilities, except for telephone/internet, will be provided in a Nature Conservancy residence at Apalachicola Bluffs and Ravines Preserve in Bristol, FL.WHAT YOU'LL BRING High school diploma or GED and 6 months of related experience Experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. lawn mower, chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, two-way radio, or similar equipment). Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. First Aid, CPR, herbicide or pesticide application). DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated. Experience working with or knowledge of natural systems. Ability to work in a team environment. Current National Wildland Fire Coordinating Group Fire Fighter Type 2 (NWCG FFT2) qualifications Current First Aid/CPR certification. Ability to follow instructions from colleagues/coworkers/team members. PC and/or mobile device familiarity, including database knowledge or understanding. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges.
