Anatomy (Open Rank Faculty) Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) El Paso Paul L. Foster School of Medicine (PLFSOM) Overview: The Department of Medical Education at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Paul L. Foster School of Medicine offers an exceptional opportunity for an anatomist to join our interdisciplinary team of full-time faculty. The successful candidate will work with fellow basic and clinical science educators to develop and deliver a highly integrated clinical presentation-based medical curriculum. This individual will also engage in research and service activities based on individual interests, credentials and experience.The Department of Medical Education houses a number of state-of-the art educational spaces, including a 5000 square-foot gross anatomy lab for medical student teaching and research. The department also manages a regional willed body program to meet the anatomical education and research needs for West Texas and Southern New Mexico. In addition to co-developing and delivering the core medical curriculum, our anatomy faculty manage the Distinction in Anatomy program, a popular merit-based distinction pathway for students interested in pursuing anatomy-rich medical specialties, as well as a popular 4 th -year surgical anatomy elective.Faculty in the Department of Medical Education have access to a 2700 square-foot molecular and cell biology laboratory space dedicated to support faculty-mentored student research experiences. Access to additional instrumentation and collaborative research expertise is granted by four centers of research emphasis (Cancer, Diabetes & Metabolism, Infectious Diseases, and Neuroscience) located in the adjacent Department of Molecular and Translational Medicine. Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Anatomy or a closely related discipline, or MD/DO or equivalent medical degree Expertise/experience in teaching human gross anatomy, especially clinically-integrated anatomy for medical students Evidence of scholarship in the field of anatomy or medical education Texas Medical Licensure or eligibility for Texas Medical License for physician candidates Board certification by a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties for physician candidates Preferred Qualifications Expertise/experience in teaching human embryology, especially clinically-integrated embryology for medical students Expertise/experience in the use of medical imaging and clinical case-based scenarios in the teaching of human anatomy and embryology Training or experience in development and delivery of an integrated medical curriculum Experience with innovative teaching methods such as interactive large and small group formats, laboratory-based instruction, team-based learning, case-based learning, and problem-based learning Experience with curriculum management software systems Participation in national organizations or committees devoted to medical education Experience in medical education scholarship Experience in the development of grant proposals and the management of extramural funding Emerging or established regional or national reputation for associate professor or higher rank Position Description: Participates in course administration and instruction for the pre-clerkship phase of the medical school curriculum Develops and delivers an integrated curriculum, which blends basic science and clinical concepts, in collaboration with faculty members in other disciplines Employs multiple teaching methods including case-based instruction, large- and small-group discussion, lecture, demonstration, simulation, and team-based learning Provides formative and summative assessment of medical student performance Provides individual support, feedback, and advice to medical students Works closely with the course and curriculum committees, fellow faculty, and key administrators to accomplish the goals and objectives of the medical schools curriculum Engages in scholarship, clinical service (if applicable), and academically-related public service Adheres to institutional policies and procedures Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility Depending on individual goals and interests, and as negotiated with the Chair of the Department of Medical Education, the successful candidate may also have the opportunity to: Serve as a college mentor by providing one-on-one support, feedback, and advising to medical students assigned to one of the schools academic learning communities (colleges) Co-facilitate discussion-based sessions in the College Colloquium, a course devoted to topics such as medical ethics, controversies in medicine, evidence-based medicine, critical thinking, safety and quality improvement, communication, humanism, empathy, wellness, life-long learning, bias, leadership, and professionalism This position is salaried and fully funded.
