Position Overview Under the direction and tutelage of the Manager, Coding and Analysis, the incumbent is responsible for coding inpatient and daycare health records using the International Classification of Diseases. Extracts data from the health record and appropriately enters that data into the on-line abstracting system in accordance with current coding and abstracting standards. Makes adjustments to abstracts based on updated chart documentation, edit failure reports and quality data reviews. Responsible for achieving pre-defined productivity levels as a means to meet strict schedules for data submission. Experience Basic knowledge of Manitoba coding and abstracting rules and principles is required. Knowledge of Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) standards and methodology required. Knowledge of computer operations required. Familiarity with resource materials required to accurately code and abstract, for example, the CIHI Abstract Manual and medical reference materials. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Windows applications and the Internet required. Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate) Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
