SUMMARY OF POSITION Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Assistant, the Maintenance Attendant is responsible for the daily custodial maintenance of the Fairview Heights Recreation Complex. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (Essential functions including the following and the Physical Requirements listed below): Acts as a representative of the Fairview Heights Recreation Complex in the community and maintains a professional image Acts with a sense of urgency and responds in a timely manner to complaints, questions, and inquiries from staff and the public Works collaboratively with the Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Assistant, and other management staff to ensure that maintenance and cleaning issues are a staff priority Maintains various facility areas in a clean and professional manner, such as vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, doors, and windows; sweeping, mopping, and polishing; dusting and cleaning offices; collecting trash Assists Recreation Complex staff in setting up, tearing down for events, such as parties, fitness classes, special events, etc Assists in inspecting all areas of the Recreation Complex on an ongoing basis to proactively identify problems and necessary cleaning and maintenance Assists in cleaning the pool and other aquatics facility equipment; assists in cleaning outdoor fountains and splash pad equipment Notifies maintenance management of low stock of maintenance/cleaning equipment and supplies; notifies maintenance management of equipment that needs repair or equipment that may need to be repaired Maintains regular, timely attendance on an ongoing basis Attends trainings, meetings, and seminars on an ongoing basis to promote educational opportunities and maximize job knowledge; stay up to date on current developments and standards in the custodial and maintenance industry Assists the Facility Manager and staff as necessary in planning and executing events and day-to-day operations of the Recreation Complex Administers first aid and emergency procedures as needed Available for after-hours/on-call support Other duties as assigned by Facility Manager and/or his/her designee BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in a related field preferred One (1) year of experience in commercial custodial work preferred CPR, First Aid, and AED Certified, or the ability to become certified within one (1) month of hire Valid Driver's License KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED Results-driven and motivational work style, high degree of initiative Skillful use and general knowledge of proper cleaning techniques Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, management/supervisory staff, vendors, City officials, and members of the public Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to demonstrate a friendly, enthusiastic, and positive attitude Ability to organize, keep accurate records, and prioritize multiple tasks Ability to operate and adapt to various platforms of technology, such as an iPad, laptop, personal computer, Smart TVs, etc. WORKING CONDITIONS The employee will be working near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock. The employee will work in high, precarious places, in confined spaces, and may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The outdoor work environment may result in exposure to extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, and humidity. Extended workdays and varied hours are a frequent occurrence, as are weekends and holidays, to support the needs and demands of the Recreation Complex PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires the ability to talk, hear, and see Employee frequently lifts moderate to heavy objects, materials, tools and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds; ability to lift up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis Spends considerable time standing, sitting, walking, driving, kneeling, stooping, crouching, squatting, climbing ladders, crawling, and twisting of upper body Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Position requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to effectively and efficiently operate machinery, equipment, tools, and other related items
