Associate Digital Director Open: March 12, 2024 Close: Open Until Filled Grade: ES5 ($66,561 - $99,840) Current District of Columbia residents will receive priority and advanced preference for screening and interviews. This position is located in the Executive Office of the Mayor, Office of Communications. The office operates as a resource to all government agencies, officials, and the media in facilitating the widest possible dissemination of information to the public. The Associate Digital Director will work with the Communications Director and Digital Director to communicate with the public and stakeholders through Mayor Muriel Bowser’s social media. ** This is an excepted service position in the District of Columbia. The selected candidate must be a domicile of the District within 180 days of hire. Strong preference for current DC residents. ***** MAJOR DUTIES Assist Digital Director with execution of daily and monthly content strategy, including copywriting, identifying assets, planning for relevant holidays and events, livestreaming, and dispersing content across social media platforms Monitor and provide insight on digital trends; identify and propose techniques that will elevate Mayoral social media presence Help to collect and analyze data and provide analytics across platforms Monitor social media channels for news and public sentiment relevant to Washington, DC and the Mayor’s Office Serve as key member in creative process, including the ideation and execution of video projects, assisting videographer as needed Collaborate with and help support DC Government agencies to ensure consistency and effectiveness of messaging across platforms Performs other related duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Experience managing social media accounts for organizations or public figures, preferably in government; passion for civic engagement and community outreach Knowledge of mainstream social media platforms, including Instagram, Threads, X, and Facebook, as well as software including Trello, Adobe Suite, Canva Comprehensive knowledge of Mayoral initiatives and priorities, and familiarity with Office of Communications’ approach across various subject matter areas Mastery of the principles, methods and techniques of effective communications. Mastery of the methods, practices and procedures used in public relations, marketing and research, mass media, advertising, special interest groups, community relations, and government relations, as they relate to large organized projects and initiatives. Strong analytical, strategic and creative skills to develop and implement public outreach programs; and skill in developing strategies to disseminate information. Superior ability to manage multiple priorities and fast-paced work. Ability to effectively develop, organize, and present ideas and concepts to diverse groups, including government officials, journalists, analysts, and District residents. Superior writing, verbal and presentation skills. Strong, persuasive, compelling and engaging writing skills, in order to convey information concerning complex programs and functions to publics having diverse levels of understanding of DC Government programs and activities. Superior interpersonal relation skills to serve as the principal advisor and authority on communication issues for the Executive Office of the Mayor; and to work with the senior leaders to address problem solving through communications. DOMICILE REQUIREMENT: There is a legal requirement that each new appointee to the Excepted and Executive Service either: (1) be domiciled in the District of Columbia at the time of appointment; or (2) establish District domicile within one hundred eighty (180) days of appointment. The law also requires that Excepted and Executive Service employees maintain District domicile during the period of the appointment.
